Plunging so heavily in to the world of professional live sound engineering, exposed me to a world I was not expecting. The clinical nature of an engineers life was surprising. The amount of planning that goes in to each event was surprising. Whilst I understand that a lot of the variables that an engineer ‘should’ plan for mostly never actually come in to play, the meticulous planning involved both dissuades my enthusiasm and invokes an awe within me. However, an element I can relate to immediately within the field, is the mindset of the tech snob. Engineers seem to each have very strong ideas about what gear should be used, and that which definitely should not. Just a little tip never air the word ‘Mackie’ in the presence of a seasoned engineer, the mocking takes a while to cease.
